After running a couple of events at the start of the year I asked Geoff about
the grade that Godraw suggests for each player. As 90% of the players
in the relevant range do look at their ratings it should be a case of calling
their name up in Godraw and seeing it is the same and accepting it.
At present you have to check why their grade and Godraw's grade are
different and then overtype what Godraw suggests. This it is obviously
too much like hard work and for on the day entries you may not have internet
to check why. The 10% that are different can then be discussed with
the player and a decision based on non-EGD data/reasoning.

We agreed that Godraw players file should be changed, but Geoff wanted
Council to approve the change. It seems daft for the "policy" to be for
players to use their rating, but the BGA's draw program not to.
Just changing this would make a big difference when entering names.

Note that the EGD is updated every day and we cannot get a date
when UK players last changed, for instance.

For Richard: two of the views you want are already under tools - view rank list
and view prize list.

OK - and so this goes back to the original point.

Godraw will default based on what they started their last tournament at - not what their current grade is based on GoR coming out of the last tournament.

Sure, asking people if it's correct is one thing. But this relies on people knowing whether it's correct or not - and often people don't. So then they just tend to agree with whatever is being suggested to them.

I think Geoff & I are both in agreement that as TDs we do need to do a bit more than that. We should be checking grades against the current EGD ratings. It's a bit more work, but it does feel like the right thing to do.

Of course if Godraw implemented the changes I've proposed then in your case it should be more likely correct...

Go Draw default usually unless they've said something different when they entered and I have that to hand (not always the case),

I make a point of telling folks what grade they're down at and asking them if it's correct.
When you say that you tell them what grade they're "down at", where do you get the "down at" grade from? Is that something you've taken from the EGD (manually), the grade they specified when they entered, the grade Godraw has defaulted them to, or something else?

Thanks,
 Matt
