[Newsletter] IMPORTANT: A chance for improved governance at the EGF

Members,

 

Earlier this year Manja Marz was elected to be the next EGF President -
starting from Jan 1st 2026. One of her main campaign promises was to improve
governance and the transparency of decision making at the EGF. Her proposal
for that was to create a number of Commissions, each covering a key topic,
which would be composed of experts and other interested people from any EGF
member country. Whilst ultimate power will still reside with the EGF
Executive, these Commissions will be responsible for making recommendations
to the Executive concerning their individual remits. The expectation is that
such recommendations will usually be accepted, indeed that is stated in the
remit they have issued.

 

The attached document, and the mail below, is a call for nominations to the
14 (yes 14!) Commissions they are looking to set up. 

 

We have for some time had issues with the management practices of the EGF,
and now is our opportunity to help change them. It would be wonderful if we
can come up with a good number of nominations across all the Commissions.

 

Please give this some serious consideration, and do put yourself forwards
for one or more Commissions that you would want to contribute to. The amount
of work involved is unlikely to be great, but will undoubtedly depend on the
Commission in question.

 

The EGF are looking for nominations from each member country, so if you want
to put yourself forwards for one or more Commissions please let me and/or
the Secretary know (mail to President at Britgo.org

<mailto:Secretary at britog.org> ) by the end of Friday October 24th. We will
then discuss and finalise the nominations at our next Board meeting which is
on the 28th.

If you are interested in getting involved or know someone from your national
society who would be a good fit, we would be very happy to receive your
offers of support by Sunday, November 9.

In the following weeks until the end of the year, the new commissions and
their chairpersons will be announced.
