My apologies, it has been pointed out to me that there are in fact two more
EGF Board positions up for re-election this year. They are:
* Treasurer - currently held by Harry van der Krogt
* Vice President - currently held by Damir Medak
A far as I am aware both incumbents are planning to stand for re-election.
If anyone is interested in going for these positions please let me know by
the 27th.
Regards,
Colin Williams

Subject: Movement and Opportunities at the European Go Federation
Dear members,
A recent communication from Nicholas, EGF Secretary, said (the highlights
are his):
"I am also providing an important update in relation to this year's
elections. We most importantly need candidates for a new officer (who will
be the new President - details below), Secretary, and members of the Appeals
Committee. The other open positions remain as stated in the original message
below.
1. Martin Stiassny decided to step down from his position on 31st
December 2025, six months before the planned election at EGC 2026.
2. The Board will submit the following proposal that will need to be
voted upon at the AGM:
a. Extend the Board by one officer ("president-elect"), to be elected at
the AGM in Warsaw. This officer will be the new EGF President from 1st
January 2026
b. In the 5 months (August -December 2025) the president-elect will work
along with Martin (in a kind of "double-leadership"), which is considered
optimal for introducing / transferring all of Martin's tasks of the last
decades in a smooth way.
c. The president-elect will be a member of the EGF Execitive Committee
("Board") starting after the AGM. If he/she is already a member of the Board
right now, no change will be necessary (i.e. no need for extending the board
in such a case).
d. The new president will serve as President for 3.5 years, counting from
1st January 2026.
3. Nicholas Roussos decided not to run for re-election as Secretary after
the end of his current term. All members are therefore strongly encouraged
to identify and nominate candidates for the position of Secretary.
4. The EGF Appeals Committee must have five members. It is very important
that we receive nominations for the Appeals Committee, to be voted at the
AGM. Candidates would preferably have some legal background, excellent
communication skills and must be persons of vouched integrity.
The deadline for candidate nominations is extended from 23rd May to 6th
June, to allow some extra time for submitting candidates."
This marks the end of Martin's presidency, which started about 15 years ago.
For a little while now we have been in conversation with Manja Marz from
Germany (runner of the JIGS school) who is our preferred candidate to take
over. Some of her Go CV can be seen at the bottom of this page
https://www.rna.uni-jena.de/members/manja-marz/ . Her agenda is broadly to
increase transparency of decision making at the EGF, delegate real power to
a number of commissions of experts she will set up, and revamp the EGF
finances. As regards the finances she believes it is possible to use the
European Congress each year to finance a lot of the EGF's activities,
without increasing the onus on the event host. We will wait to see the
details of that idea.
In respect of the Secretary vacancy, at my suggestion Gerry Gavigan is
intending to apply for that role. He already has a good relationship with
Manja, and as we do shares many of her objectives for the EGF. This does not
rule out anyone else applying for the role if they want to. As nominations
should come from the national associations, could anyone interested please
confirm it to me by the end of May 27th - two weeks from now, to allow the
Board time to consider.
Similarly, could any candidates for the Appeals Committee please let me know
by the end of the 27th. I am not sure exactly how many vacancies there are,
but I believe it is more than one.
