Apologies for using the newsletter distribution list, but I have just
learned of an event which has very short notice.

 

The Korean Baduk Association are again hosting an event they call the world
championship, which is for players born in 1980 or earlier. The EGF has an
invite for one place, and will hold a qualification event in late April.
Please see below and attached for details. Apparently they will cover costs
apart from the airfare.

 

Anyone interested please reply direct to Martin to cut out the middle man.

Hello,

 

here's an interesting tournament, where Europe will get one seat, like in
the last few years, when Rob van Zejst represented Europe.

Please spread the information in your countries. I assume that there will be
more than one interested player, so we need an
online-qualification-tournament. Therefore herewith I set a deadline on the
16th April for "showing interest" in this event. The
qualification-tournament will happen in the second half of April, while the
deadline for nominating our European representative is the 30th April.

 

So I wait on e-mails of interested players !

3. Tournament Regulations

1) Participants : Korea 5, China 2, Japan 2, Chinese Taipe 1, 

   Sponsor's wildcard 2, Europe 1, North America 1, Oceania 1, Southeast
Asia 1

* Players from countries other than korea, china and japan 

   can participate as professionals or amateurs

 

2) Eligibility for participation : Players born in 1980 or earlier

3) Player Selection Process: 

  - Each country (region) will conduct its own selection tournament

  - Selection results and player photos must be submitted to KBA for banner
production

 

4) Tournament Format: 16-player individual competition, Single-elimination
knockout tournament

   from Round of 16 to Finals

 

5) Time Limits: 

  - Korean Go rules and tournament regulations apply.
  - Komi: 6.5 points

  - Time control: 30 minutes per player, 3 countdown periods of 60 seconds
each

  - Two matches per day (morning and afternoon)



6) Tardiness Rule: Late players will have their time deducted accordingly.
Players arriving more than

   15 minutes late will forfeit the match

 

7) Drawing Lots : The tournament bracket will be determined at the opening
ceremony and will 

   remain unchanged

players, including

  player profiles and photos, to the Korea Baduk Association by April 30,
