<div dir="ltr"><font face="arial, sans-serif">Hi Geoff,</font><div><font face="arial, sans-serif"><br></font></div><div><font face="arial, sans-serif">I thought this had all been dealt with before?</font></div><div><font face="arial, sans-serif"><br></font></div><div><font face="arial, sans-serif">I brought it up at the Youth Committee in 2020 because I don't feel it's ethical (and I'm surprised if it's legal, although I'm no GDPR expert) to submit people's data (especially children's) to a database like this without their consent (or consent of parents for children).</font></div><div><font face="arial, sans-serif"><br></font></div><div><font face="arial, sans-serif">It was agreed then that all entrants needed to be aware that their data would be submitted, that this would normally be a condition of entry to the tournament, and that this would be the responsibility of tournament organisers. Toby was going to make sure that all tournament organisers were aware of this responsibility. Here is the wording from the minutes:</font></div><div><font face="arial, sans-serif">"<span style="text-align:justify">Results of all Tournaments were published on
the BGA web-site, and also submitted to the European Go Database. This data was
only name, club strength and the results of individual games, It was emphasised
that it was the responsibility of individual Tournament Organisers to ensure
that all entrants were aware of this (it should be a condition of entry unless
exceptional circumstances arose). Toby would remind all Tournament Organisers
of this responsibility."</span></font></div><div><span style="text-align:justify"><font face="arial, sans-serif"><br></font></span></div><div><span style="text-align:justify"><font face="arial, sans-serif">So I think this should have already been happening? I was surprised that on skimming the tournament organisers handbook on the BGA website, I couldn't find any reference to this (but I may have missed it). I feel that it needs highlighting in bold right at the top!</font></span></div><div><span style="text-align:justify"><font face="arial, sans-serif"><br></font></span></div><div><span style="text-align:justify"><font face="arial, sans-serif">I think the EGF idea is exactly right that getting consent needs to be part of the tournament registration process, and that the person submitting the data should have to affirm that they are confident this has been done properly. I don't see how else it can be done reliably. I don't think just putting a note on the BGA calendar is good enough, for a start many people may enter tournaments without looking at the BGA calendar.</font></span></div><div><span style="text-align:justify"><font face="arial, sans-serif"><br></font></span></div><div style="text-align:justify"><font face="arial, sans-serif">Thanks and best wishes,</font></div><div style="text-align:justify"><font face="arial, sans-serif"><br></font></div><div style="text-align:justify"><font face="arial, sans-serif">Paul</font></div><div><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;font-size:11pt;text-align:justify"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;font-size:11pt;text-align:justify"> </span></div><p class="gmail-MsoListParagraph" style="margin:0cm 0cm 8pt 72pt;text-align:justify;line-height:107%;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><b> </b></p><div><br></div><div><br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Fri, Jan 27, 2023 at 2:25 PM Geoff Kaniuk via tournament-org <<a href="mailto:tournament-org@lists.britgo.org">tournament-org@lists.britgo.org</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">Sounds like tightening up on Data Protection rules to me. So you will <br>
want something that satisfies lawyers?<br>

My initial reaction is that this information should be displayed at the <br>
head of the calendar. Not everyone uses the entry form, and leaving <br>
TD's to add this to their web sites creates extra work.<br>
<br>
It should perhaps also be clearly stated in BGA policy.<br>
<br>
I will raise the comments with Lorenz Trippel. Some form of the <br>
statement should appear on the EGD home page so that all could see. At <br>
the moment it only pops up when you submit.<br>
