FROM THE EDITOR

Contributions are always welcome, both from our members and others. We ask
that they be Go-related and "newsy". The place for debate and general
discussion is the BGA open mailing list Gotalk. However, an introduction to
a new topic is fine in the Newsletter. A brief introduction to Gotalk, with
a link for joining, is on the BGA page Go on the Internet
<https://www.britgo.org/gopcres/info#mail>. See also the BGA temporary
Coronavirus
page <http://www.britgo.org/coronavirus>.

*Instructions for Contributors:* Please use plain text not
file-attachments. Keep it fairly brief, and give web-links and contact
details. It's good to include pictures. If they are on the internet, send
me the URL, otherwise attach the picture files to your email. Send your
contribution to newsletter at britgo.org to arrive by the first day of the
month.

Durham Held Online

Durham's two-day tournament on OGS attracted 70 players, from 20 different
countries. Leo Kai Mei (5d UK) was the overall winner, with Mani Sanford
(4d United States) and Xiang Zhang (5d Singapore) in 2nd and 3rd places.
Side events included the traditional Saturday-night BBQ party, but on Zoom
this time, and a lecture by Sandy Taylor (3d) on "Mistakes that matter (and
why most of them don't)".
UK Go Challenge Finals

The Go Challenge is an annual competition for schools, held on 13x13
boards, with heats held in Schools followed by the Finals. It was not
feasible to hold the heats this year, but the Finals, held online, was
nevertheless held on 4 July, with 32 entrants. Congratulations go to Chen
Qin of Nottingham who was top girl and overall winner with a perfect 6/6.
ADMIN.BGA AGM

At the BGA AGM, held on May 7, Pat Ridley, Neil Sandford and Joanne Leung
stood down from Council; Andrew Ambrose-Thurman and Peter Rootham-Smith
were elected. Subsequently Council co-opted Mohammed Amin and Stephen
Tweedie to Council. Here is more information
<http://www.britgo.org/positions> about all Council members.

At the AGM the motion to approve, in principle, conversion to a Company
Limited by Guarantee was carried, and Council's Governance Committee is
working away on the details; we will be consulting with members over these
proposals before the final details are presented to the 2022 AGM.
