*Contributions for the Newsletter* are always welcome, both from our
members and others. We ask that they be Go-related and “newsy". The place
for debate and general discussion is currently Gotalk
<http://www.britgo.org/gopcres/info#gotalk>; however, an introduction to a
new topic is fine in the Newsletter. *Instructions:* Please use plain text
not file-attachments. Keep it brief, and give web-links and contact
details. It's good to include pictures. If they are on the internet, send
me the URL. If not, attach the picture files to your email. Send your
contribution to newsletter at britgo.org to arrive by the first day of the
month.

NEWS

The full set of recent news items, including further details of some of the
items shown here, are on our News Pages <http://www.britgo.org/news>, and
on News Headlines <http://www.britgo.org/views/news>.
European Youth Go Team Championship

In the final match, our Youth team of Daniel Yang, Edmund Smith, Alexander
Hsieh, Yanyi Xiong and Jianzhou Mei lost 2-3 to Czechia. As a result we
ended up in 7th position (out of 12); the League winners were Russia, with
France 2nd and Romania 3rd.
Pandanet Go European Team Championship

In the January match our team lost again by three games to one, this time
against Austria. The only win was by Joanne Leung, making her debut in the
League on board 4. In February our team fought hard and managed a draw
against Switzerland. The next match will be on Tuesday 19th March, against
Norway.
Fischer Time Trialled at Cheshire Tournament

The 21st Cheshire Tournament became the first event in the UK to use
Fischer Time on new BGA electronic clocks. The 42 players successfully used
the new system that gives extra time for each move played. The basic time
was set at 40 minutes and ten seconds were added each move, remaining a B
class tournament; only one game was lost on time (selecting the optional
warning beep helped most avoid this) and fast players often had more time
left at the end than they started with.
ADMINAnnual General Meeting of the British Go Association

The BGA AGM will be held during the British Go Congress at 7pm on Saturday,
6th April 2019 at the Macdonald Hotel, Manchester. The agenda is:

   1. Election of tellers
   2. Minutes of the 2018 AGM
   3. Matters arising from the minutes
   4. Officers, Membership Secretary and Auditor's reports
   5. 2018 accounts
   6. Election of Officers and Auditor
   7. Election of ordinary Council Members
   8. Proposals from members
   9. Any other business

Nominations for President, Treasurer and Secretary should be sent to the
Secretary (secretar at britgo.org) before 23th March 2019. Nominations for
ordinary Council Members should be submitted before the start of the AGM.
Events Info.

For the EVENTS section this time we are trialling a new slimmed-down
format, indicating just the type of event and its location, plus the usual
reminder, as before, of the Events Calendar
<http://www.britgo.org/tournaments>.

In addition, the Newsletter can be a good place to promote events. So I'd
like to encourage organisers to strut their stuff and write a NEWS item
about their upcoming event. This might include teaching sessions, side
competitions, social events, things for non-playing families to do, and of
course pictures.
